Council & CommitteesThe Association of Registered Nurses of PEI has the authority to regulate the nursing profession. A 13 member Council establishes the strategic direction and policies for ARNPEI as well as directs the affairs and influences the advancement and promotion of nursing practice in Prince Edward Island. ARNPEI's Council is made up of 11 elected Registered Nurses (President, Presient Elect, Vice President and 8 Councillors), and two appointees including a public representative and a student representative. As ARNPEI's policy and governing body, they receive authority from the Registered Nurses Act (1988), the Regulations and By-Laws. Through the Registered Nurses Act, Council is authorized to manage the business of the Association and to make rules respecting such things as Standards of Practice, Standards of Education, registration and licensing of registered nurses, and professional conduct review. Council meets four times a year. Generally, it meets for a full day in the months of September, November, February and April. Council may also meet via teleconference to discuss matters that require immediate attention. President The President-Elect is elected by the membership and serves a two-year term followed by a two-year term as President. Council ARNPEI is the official voice for nurses in PEI and speaks on behalf of the nursing profession.
